Why this designation matters to me as a Realtor serving Golden and the West Denver community.

Moving can be one of life’s most vulnerable transitions. Having moved many times myself, I remember the chaos of packing, the uncertainty of change, and the feeling of everything being temporarily unsettled. But I also remember the calm that followed—the sense of a proper reset once a new place finally felt like home.

Early in my career as a real estate agent, I had the honor of helping a very special neighbor prepare for her final move. She declared it to me along the way and worked very diligently. She was methodical addressing her items, slowly revealing with offhand comments that she was intentionally shedding layers of this world.

As a nurse, she had long supported others through their own transitions and shared her some of her wisdom with me about letting go. This experience opened my eyes to how vulnerable and important the process can be, especially for seniors.

She shared stories of the neighborhood and our history in Golden. She lovingly documented the perennials she had curated in her garden over a 40-year adventure in her sweet home.

Homes like hers quietly hold the story of a neighborhood — gardens planted over decades, neighbors who became friends, and the rhythms of life that make a place like Golden feel like home.

She shared this note with me about our time working together:

“DD was so helpful through the sale, not only with telling me what to do but also doing many extra things for me. Her notebook with all the details for the new owner was ram packed with stuff from my 40 years in my house. She organized it so well and made it work. I can not thank you enough DD.”

It was an honor for me, and I knew my time with her was very special. She asked me to help her transfer her property so she could relax into her final stretch feeling prepared and at peace. A lifetime of belongings, memories, and decisions often needs to be sorted, organized, and navigated—especially during meaningful transitions later in life.

That experience stayed with me. When I began building my real estate practice, I made a simple promise to myself: to treat every client the way I would hope someone would treat my own grandmother—with patience, honesty, and genuine care.

That philosophy is exactly why earning the SRES® (Seniors Real Estate Specialist®) designation means so much to me.

Colorado’s Changing Demographics

Families change over time. Our parents age, our loved ones face new life transitions, and many of us begin thinking about how and where we want to live in the years ahead.

While Colorado is often considered a youthful and active state, it is also home to a rapidly growing population of residents over the age of 60. In fact, according to the Colorado State Demography Summit, the median age in Colorado is projected to rise from 39 to 44 over the next twenty years.

As our population ages, the need for real estate professionals who understand the unique needs of mature clients continues to grow.

What Is an SRES® Agent?

As a member of the National Association of REALTORS®, America’s largest trade association for real estate professionals, I am proud to offer specialized expertise to mature clients and their families navigating important housing decisions.

By earning the SRES® (Seniors Real Estate Specialist®) designation, I completed advanced training focused on the unique needs of clients aged 50 and older, including:

  • Aging-in-place considerations

  • Financial and lifestyle options for seniors

  • Downsizing and transitioning strategies

  • Communication approaches tailored to mature clients and their families

An SRES® agent understands that later-life real estate decisions often involve much more than simply buying or selling a home. These transitions may include coordinating with family members, evaluating housing options that support independence, and thoughtfully planning the next stage of life.

As your REALTOR®, I am also required to adhere to the strict Code of Ethics established by the National Association of REALTORS®, ensuring professionalism, integrity, and fiduciary responsibility in every transaction.

Helping Seniors Navigate Real Estate in Golden and West Denver

As a Senior Real Estate Specialist® serving Golden, Lakewood, Arvada, and the greater West Denver area, I regularly help clients over the age of 50 navigate important housing decisions. Whether that means downsizing to a smaller home, relocating closer to family, preparing a long-time residence for sale, or exploring housing options that support aging in place, my goal is to make the process thoughtful, organized, and as stress-free as possible.

Every situation is unique, and transitions later in life deserve patience, respect, and clear guidance.

Why This Designation Matters

The need for specialized knowledge in this area continues to grow. As Jen Rzeszewski, Vice President & Executive Director of CRD | Center for REALTOR® Development at the National Association of REALTORS®, explains:

“With an aging population redefining real estate priorities, REALTORS® need a deep understanding of mature clients' unique needs. The SRES® designation highlights an agent’s dedication to providing customized support and solutions for seniors in an evolving housing market.”

Planning for the Next Chapter

If you have parents, aging aunts or uncles, or loved ones beginning to consider their next chapter, I would be honored to help. Our seniors deserve knowledgeable, patient, and trusted guidance.

And if you are over the age of 55, I encourage you to join my contact list. Five years will pass quickly—and staying informed today can help you feel confident and prepared for tomorrow’s options.
